sandy.
So far, there are less than 40 individual responses as of today. I would like to draw a conclusion for all the members here, but as Ralph Barker has correctly predicted in the thread, I would not be able to draw any conclusive report from such a small sample. I am going on a business trip on Sunday (not that it matters to anyone). I hope to post something meaningful for those who responded. I will give it a couple more days and I will try to report if the poll makes any sense. So if you have not already shared with us the information, please try to help soon. In two more days, the thread will be moved to the archives, so here is your last chance to share your findings to the Leica community. Thanks in advance. james_.1
Seriously though, I like the Canoscan 4000. Dark details from the Nikon may be better, but the DOF from the Canon I have read is better. Plus the price diff. of course.
lowell_peterson
The 43rd response... The ArtixScann 4000tf...read the review in the current issue of Shutterbug...about $950 and available at B&H Photo. Lowell Peterson

carl2
Nikon LS-30. If I were buying one today, I'd lean toward that groovy sounding Minolta Scan Dual Pro Multi Di II III whatever 4600spi baby, and join the Rollei list. The Coolscan is perfect for color neg from my Trip 35, and hints at what the Leica can do.

paul_sharratt
I use a Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 with Lasersoft AI 6.0. Takes awhile to scan but the results are very pleasing. I print on an Epson C80 (a new C82 is $149)and find it comes close to printers costing 4 times as much and the prints are waterproof!

michael_kastner
Okay, Sandy, I didn't respond because I don't have any scanner for photos and/or slides. If I had to buy one tomorrow (which I wouldn't mind) and I didn't have your poll results (unfortunately) then I'd probably buy the Nikon 4000 thing or the cheaper one (about half price) AND NOT ANY Canon! I have always had good results with my good old Nikon and Nikonos stuff (who cares)... BUT... I have always had bad results with ANYTHING from Canon!! Normal scanner, fax, printer... I once had these from Canon and then got rid of 'em all to get something better. SO. <== Mike the shouter
gerry_szarek
Currently a HP S20 photo scanner (it's ok, not great, but cheap). Soon to be upgraded to a Canon FS4000U. Gerry

boris_karkowski
Minolta Scan Dual II w/ Vuescan. I scan colour slides only. Has lots of problems w/ gold colours (gets pretty greyish) and sometimes green. Autofocus doesn't get it w/ about 5% of all scans. Nonetheless good quality for the money in most cases.
