A good Nikon Wednesday to everyone, and a few more from last week's puppy portrait session. One that we delivered, and a couple of out-takes from the process. Wouldn't want anyone to think it was easy. Got any behind the scenes secrets to spill? Share some photos!

I'll follow Matt's example and open with a pic of a friend's rescue puppy. Now happily recovering from previous neglect.

More soulful eyes; this time from a basking common seal.

And one of its friends in the water.

Speaking of nature, I've been admiring the bold postmodern architecture of the dragonfly. Not only is the wing structure itself part of the design, but all the ropes and pulleys that operate them. A dragonfly is like a hot rod with the hood off.

In recent days I've been photographing red-throated divers at a pond. I find the bird quite interesting in how it takes off with a lot of splashes but is very graceful once in air. D5, 500/5.6 PF, f/5.6, 1/2000s, ISO 9000.

Once it has taken off, it circles around the pond to pick up speed and altitude (and maybe to check out the photographer). 500mm, f/5.6, 1/2000s, ISO 3600.

I didn't get to take pictures of puppies this week. :( I am hosting a conference in Park City next month, so I drove up last weekend to get a feel for the hotel and location. D750+24-85VR.
