ron_erwin1
A question for users of the newest incarnation of the 70-200. Can this version focus close enough on a face to fill the frame? The first would, but the VRII would not.
ilkka_nissila
The FL goes to about 1:5 magnification at closest focus at 200mm. About 12 x 18 cm subject size.

Is your information from actual use of the lens?
ilkka_nissila
I do use the lens and while I didn't measure that Nikon's specifications are true, I can say that I can easily frame head shots that do not include the whole (adult human) head. I find that the 70-200/4 (which also focuses close) to lose a bit of its sharpness upon close focus, but the 70-200mm f/2.8 FL is really sharp at these settings (it is very consistent across distances and focal lengths).
