Metz flash on Nikon F80

using flash other than the Nikon makes may damage the F80. I doubt it...

What they are referring to is high sync voltage. You can be sure a Nikon flash won't damage a Nikon camera due to this but it's very possible another flash can, particularly if it's old and/or third party.

I won't go into why again here since much has been written on the subject already. Do a search.

I have never experienced any problems using Metz 36CT2, 60CT1 and 60CT4 flasshes on Nikon 801, 801s, F90, F90X and F100 camera's in either manual or TTL mode (with 343 SCA adapters).

Not to start a Nikon/Canon war, but I believe the high voltage frying was a problem more prone with Canon's. I believe Ellis Vener once posted more details on this subject.

As far as the recommendation by Nikon on not using third part flashes, lenses and accessories go, IMO it's mainly an argument to keep people only buying their stuff, and is something every manufacturer always says.

My two cents,
