larry_hensley1
Could anyone comment on landscape photographic opportunities in England and Southern Scotland? In May I will be going there for the first time. Thanks.
david_adams
My favourites: the south coast around Brighton and Eastbourne (Beachy Head), the villages of Gloucestershire and Somerset, the Lake District, Forrest of Dean. E-mail me if you have specific questions.
ian_watts1
Larry, do a search. There are quite a few threads on this subject both here and over in the 'original Q & A'.
martin_davidson
Although not as dramatic as the highlands, Southern Scotland (usually called "the borders" is full of beautiful landscape, as well as historical architectre (ruins of sacked abbeys a particular speciality).
Underrated, but especially beautiful, IMO, is the south west corner; Galloway and Kirkcudbrightshire (pronounced "ker-koo-bre-shire" or as near as dammit).
Lovely soft landscape and spectacular light (if youre lucky!)
Enjoy. steve_graham
If you're in the areas of Southern Scotland that Martin mentions (and they are very pleasant) you may want to visit one of the larger towns in the area - Dumfries - as it has a very intersting old camera obscura, as well as some interesting architecture. george_rhodes
If you will be traveling in the southern part of England, I highly recommend Stonehenge, located on the southern part of the Salisbury Plain, about 8 miles north of Salisbury and 2 miles west of Amesbury. In nearby Salisbury, you will find the spectacular Salisbury Cathedral. The quaint little village of Castle Combe is not far from Salisbury. It is one of the most picturesque villages in England. You will feel as though you have gone back in time.
