Leica IF, Red or Black dial?

 

I just bought a Leica IF, numbered 673xxx. It has 1/25 so it's originally a red dial converted to a black dial one? I know it doesn't perform better or anything, just curious :)

Black dials are the earlier models and red dials later, so a red dial to BD conversion.....makes no sense. The SN indicates its from a batch of 1999 bodies producing during 1953/54 so it's probably in the time frame between the switchover from BD to RD production.

 

The flash synchronization system is the main difference between the two. In terms of practical, non-flash photography, there's not a bit of difference between using the two types. If I had to pick between a red dial and black dial body, I'd choose strictly based on mechanical condition first and physical appearance second as a shooter. Collectors would do just the opposite.
