alex_polimeni
Hello
I am new to this forum and I had some questions about one of my old cameras. I am a spaceflight photographer, and I use a Canon EOS XSi DSLR for closeup telephoto images, but I have a spare DSLR I wanted to try making it show rocket trails. I have a remote shutter and tripod for the Minolta, but I cannot figure out how to get it into bulb mode. Also, I hear shutter lockup is good, but how can I do this on that camera?

Thank you
tsappas
Once you go passed 30 sec exposure the BULB mode comes automatically,in bulb the camera stops metering,to keep the shutter open press and slide the button on the remote cable.good lack.
alex_polimeni
Ok, but how do I get it past the 30 seconds? Whenever I slide the button down, it is just continuous shooting. Is there a particular mode?
dave_redmann
On the Maxxum 5D, IIRC (I used to own one) the mirror lock-up goes with the two-second self-timer. I do not know whether it is compatible with bulb mode, but just to point out, the value of mirror lock-up will usually be small with really long exposures.

As for bulb, you need to have the camera in manual exposure mode (M). As you change the shutter speeds to slower / longer values, one 'click' or change past the last / slowest one (my recollection agrees with Harry that it's 30 seconds) and the next setting is bulb.
