Maxxum Lens Compatibility

I have a 5000i and 7000AF, but only two lenses. How can I tell which

Maxxum lenses are comptable with these bodies?

I'm not totally familiar with those bodies. But as far as I can tell from my research MD lenses fit Manual focus bodies and the Auto Focus lenses fit the Auto Focus Bodies.

 

I learned this from trying to find a manual focus lense (lesser prices) to fit my maxxum 5.

All Maxxum lenses should work with your cameras. However. If you take the lens off and look on the back end, you will see a series of copper elect. contacts. The number of contacts tells you how old the lens is. The fewer contacts, the older the lens. The newer, the more features, thus; more contacts. Pull a google search on this, and you will find a load of information on this topic.

I know about the MC/MD not being compatable, because I also have a couple of older Minolta (non AF)

 

Interesting about the number of contacts. Both the cameras have five of them.

As long as you avoid Sigma lenses, you should be fine.

All Minolta A mount lenses can be mounted on these bodies. There are the following restrictions:

<ul>

<li>xi series lenses draw power from the body through 3 additional lens contacts. Only xi series and later bodies have these 3 contacts. xi features like Power Zoom do not work on pre-xi bodies.

<li>SSM lenses have in-lens AF motors which are also controlled with these 3 additional contacts. On bodies before the 7 you have to focus manually.

<li>With D series lenses you can not use the D feature, because bodies before the 7 do not support it, and, again, because of the 3 missing contacts. Everything else works.

I've used a Sigma 28-80mm Macro Aspherical lens on my Maxxum 9000, Maxxum 5 and Maxxum 7 film cameras with absolutely no problems, and have been happy with the results. <a href="http://www.ctzphoto.com/samples/minoltamaxxum5samp.html">Examples.</a> I also use an older Minolta 50mm 1.7 and newer Minolta 28-100mm D Series lens on all three Maxxums with no issue. 'D' features only work on the Maxxum 7 (of these three) with no loss to image quality or general functionality. The Tamron 80-200mm zoom I own also works on all three with no issues so far. Just my two cents...

I believe is not, but wanted to double-check with you; I also have both film Maxxum 5 and 7.

 

Is your Sigma 28-80 Macro lens the one included in this kit?
