faint light streaks on photo?

I have a Minolta XG-M 35MM SLR camera. I got a few photos back that

showed three of four diagonal bands of faint light.

 

I looked at the photos under a flourescent light and these bands did

show on the negatives. I was using a polarizer filter at the time.

Any ideas of what might cause this?

These are usually from a light leak, particularly with cameras of that vintage. How do the foam seals look in the back of the camera? If they're gummy and eroding, that's likely the problem.

 

If you want a better analysis, you could upload a photo for us to look at...

Admiral, wouldn't a light leak affect <em>all</em> the negs on a roll? Why just "a few?"

Though I be a lowly captain, I'll bat for the Admiral here. If it's a small light leak, it wouldn't show on all of the photos. It's going to depend on how long the camera sat idle between shots and the light it was exposed to during that time. You will get more light leaks on a frame that sat over the film plane in the camera for 5 hours in direct sunlight before being advanced than you will on a frame that sat there for 5 minutes in the dark. Light leaks are only uniform if the camera body's overall exposure to light and the time between film advances was uniform as well.
