dominique_dufault1
Hello everyone, I have recently upgraded from a 600si to a maxxum 7. The maxxum 100mm f2.8 macro and 50 f1.4 lens had no problems with the switch, of course, but it has been a totally different story for the Sigma 300mm f4. Actually, mounted with the Sigma, the 7 would not autofocus nor even snap a shot, and sometimes shows an error message. I heard that I could send it back to Sigma so it gets rechipped. I sent them a couple e-mails but never got a reply. Since my lens is probably no longer under warranty (bought it used at Henry?s about 10 months ago), I am wondering if I should go ahead with this or simply try to replace it with a maxxum 300mm f4. So guys, I am ready for a piece of advice. Thanks.
mease_kite
Most of the time you are probably better off with the OEM Lens. However, it is tempting to go 3rd party to save a few bucks.
gregory_logiodice1
Of course, you couldn't go wrong with the Maxxum 300 f4 if you can afford it. However, I would try and get Sigma customer service on the phone if email doesn't work. They'll do it if they have the part. I sent them an 1.4 EX converter (purchased new) that wouldn't work on my 7 and they replaced it with a new one.
michael_moon2
Have the exact same combo. At first the 300 was DOA when mounted on the 7. Sent it in to Sigma with request to re-chip it for compatibility with the 7. Back in 10 days, functions flawlessly. Very nice lens. Will continue to use it until I have the scratch for a Maxxum 400/4.5.
joz
Some older lenses do have this type of problem. Call Sigma directly is the best solution, otherwise sell it.
