cooley_high
what can you tell about Tokina 135mm 2.8 and Vivitar Auto Telephoto 135mm 2.8 lenses? which one is better? anyone in here is using them? thanks for help
douglas_green1
They are probably quite similar. Vivitar was just a distribution brand, and didn't make their own stuff. Tokina was one of the companies that made alot of stuff for Vivitar. Kiron was another. I would guestimate that the sample to sample variation, and the condition of the specific lens would outweigh whether one was inherently better than another. Also, FYI, common 3rd party prime lenses like a 135mm f2.8 should be very cheap. Like no more than $25-30 bucks TOPS in excellent shape. The Minolta 135mm f2.8 MD Rokkor lens shouldn't cost more than $50-60, for that matter.
guy_mansford
Why are you interested in non-minolta lenses, when the 135mm Minolta can be picked up for a few pounds. I've got two and they are stunningly sharp. Much better then the AF lens. You're only going to save £5 or so???
andykowalczyk
You can read a discussion of deciphering Vivitar serial numbers to determine the Subcontracted Lens Maker of a particular lens at Stephen Gandy's CameraQuest website.
Who made that Vivitar Lens?
