mark_stephan2
A few months ago I purchased the awesome 70D and now have a 40D that sees little use as a backup camera. I'm considering a LifePixel Super Color IR 590nm conversion. Is the 40D a good choice for this conversion? If not, I have a Nikon D300s that I no longer use since buying the 70D, would this camera be the better choice? Both cameras have LV if that should be taken into consideration? If you've had the conversion done what lens or lenses are you using? Will the conversion work with zooms or primes? Considering the 17-85 or 50f1.8 II if I go with the 40D.
mwtphoto
One problem that has been noted with zoom lens is some artifacts caused by reflections in the lens. I use a converted XSI and usually have a zeiss/contax 28mm lens on the camera. I think the 40D would work fine.
RickDB
My IR converted 40D works just fine; I had it converted at Kolari Vision and I sent along my EF-S 17-85 f/4-5.6 IS which they calibrated at no extra charge. As for artifacts caused by reflections, check out the Kolari Vision web site which lists how various lenses perform with IR converted cameras; some do much better than others.
