carsten_boettcher
Hi, I'd like to learn more about classic (wooden) cameras, especiallythe history of the famous GANDOLFI/CORFIELD company. So far, found only insufficient information for the latter. Do you know some good sources (books etc.)? Is there a website, similar to Ken Hough's Deardorff site, which deals with the Gandolfi history ?Many thanks for all inputs ! Regards, Carsten

stephen_vaughan3
There is quite a detailed history on the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television website (UK). Haven't got the address to hand but if you search for 'NMPFT+Gandolfi' you should find it. Best wishes....
colin carron
As a quick outline : F. Louis Gandolfi set up in business in 1885 at the age of 21 in London.. Louis' 3 sons, Thomas, Frederick & Arthur were all in the family business by the 1920's and took over when their faher retired. Their Universal tailboard type wood & brass camera was manufactured up to the 1970's having appeared in 1910 or so. The Precision camera was a taper-bellows model. The Gandolfi brothers retired but the company continues manufacturing LF cameras in Andover (UK). The company was also associated with Sir Kenneth Corfield whose interesting camera designs are manufactured by his own company. The current line up of Gandolfi products can be seen on their website. A fuller outline is given in 'British Camera Makers' by Channing & Dunn published by Parkland Designs.
pete_andrews
The Corfield interest is fairly recent. Gandolfi cameras traded under the name of Louis Gandolfi and sons for many years.<p>There was an in-depth article on the Gandolfis and their history in the British Journal of Photography, many years ago now. Probably published at the centenary celebration of the company.
