mervyn_wilmington
I'm now using my newly acquired D1x. I don't have the instruction book. I could download and print, but there are 236 pages, around 90% of which I would not need.

I wondered whether there had been a short or quick guide for this model. I can't find one online. Does any member know if there is one, please?
rodeo_joe1
Why not put the PDF version on your phone for easy reference?
In any case a PDF is easier to search for whatever feature you need to look up.
mervyn_wilmington
Good advice RJ. However, when I tell you I have just updated my phone from a Nokia 3210 to a 3310! It doesn't do such things

robert_bouknight1
The (inexpensive when I got it) D1x served me well after my D2Hs and D200 were stolen and I could not afford to replace them at the time.

I would recommend shooting NEF files only and convert them with Capture NX, and doing a manual white balance in anything but daylight. For daylight, I would shoot cloudy-3 WB. I was always happy with results from the camera when used that way.

About the only thing I think I would need would be a summary of the custom functions (print from KR's or elsewhere) and a procedure for shooting manual white balance (I have forgotten how it has been so long.) There are a lot less settings for the D1x than in current cameras, which simplifies things.

All of the batteries (worst feature of the camera) I have are dead. I am thinking of creating a new Li ion battery for my D1x from a dead nicad.

mervyn_wilmington
Thanks for that Robert. I've just bought a new battery (£14). They seem plentiful and feedback suggests they are better than the original Nikons.
heimbrandt
Why not copy and paste the parts you feel that you do need and print them?
mervyn_wilmington
Thanks for that Andreas. In a sense I can do that by simply printing pages from a PDF of the full manual. The quick and short guides provided with some cameras achieve that sort of result a bit more effectively.
