mark_stephan2
Does Yongnuo make Canon lenses or does Canon make Yongnuo lenses? The lens looks like the Canon EF 50 f1.8II lens.
eBay item number; 121599078345
ed_avis2
Hmm, possible; the EF 50/1.8 doesn't say 'CANON LENS MADE IN JAPAN' as many others do....
Marcus Ian
I don't think these are the same lens. I think the Yongnuo is a copy of the basic design, and is designed to appear as similar as possible (without violating any copyright/patent restrictions).

The optical design is slightly different, and the MTF has some specific variance (though broadly similar in most respects). Admittedly it's possible that they are, in fact, the same lens, and that those are publication errors and/or sample variation, but the combination leads me to conclude that it's highly unlikely.

For $58 though? if it's even close (in function) than it's steal!
wilko_van_den_bergh
Yongnuo is a completely different brand altogether.
The Yongnuo 50mm f1.8 lens has been compared with its Canon counterpart (the plastic fantastic) by DigitalRev on youtube:
Marcus Ian
Thank you Wilko for posting that! I love their vids...

I have to admit though, if I were working for Yongnuo, I probably would have copied the Mk1 not the Mk2!
Marcus Ian
Looks like they copied another one too!

http://www.dpreview.com/articles/1076531289/yongnuo-creates-canon-ef-35mm-f-2-clone

Crisp sharpness WO has never been one of the strengths of these lenses (and so a small loss in it is probably no big deal vs. the originals), but Yongnuo's inclusion of a 7 bladed aperture diaphragm as opposed to the use of a 5 bladed ones looks like it may significantly improve the bokeh quality (vs. the originals).
Fascinating!
