High pitched noise from 24-120 f/4

<p>I just received the 24-120 f/4 from B&H. It physically functions just fine, except the AF-S motor emits a quiet but perceptible, slightly scratchy high pitched whine when focusing. None of my other AF-s lenses do that when focusing. Is this normal with this lens?</p>

<p>Some AF-S motors squeak. My Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S non-VR does, but still auto focuses well. Itsqueaked when I purchased it used, and It may have helped bring the price down.</p>

<p>Chuck, I would exchange that lens. An old AF-S motor may do that, and that could be a sign that the motor maybe failing. A new lens shouldn't do that.</p>

<p>Chuck, I gave this more thought following Shun's post. I agree with him: you should ask for an exchange. First, as Shun said, the squeak in a new lens could be a sign that the motor will fail. Second, if someday you decide to sell the lens, a buyer might demand a lower price because of the squeak.</p>

Send it back, BH won't give you a hard time about it anyway.

<p>Turn off the VR and see if it makes the same noise. I had a similar issue.</p>

<p>Just out of curiosity, have you tried this lens on more than one body, and does it whine on both?</p>
