dennis_krizek
I have a FM3A with a motor drive. Can the camera be stored (>1 week) with the drive attached without any damage to the shutter? After a shot the drive advances the film and cocks the shutter, is there any harm done by leaving the shutter cocked or should I remove the drive and release the shutter? steve_levine
I have left Nikon FM series cameras cocked for years at times!I wouldnt lose sleep over this. You can also fire the shutter manually by pulling back the manual film advance and clicking the cameras shutter release(with the MD turned off),this will uncock the camera. When the drive is turned on,it will advance & cock the camera. dave_cheney
Dennis, the comments that you may hear about never leaving the shutter cocked on a camera are more for earlier large format Copal shutters or some very early focal plan shutters. The springs in the latest Copal Square shutters are very strong and will not degrade by being cocked for extended periods of time.
