This morning was the January Full Moon here...up at 4:00am, drove / hiked back in several hundred yards along the shoreline of a local lake and set up with a red light in the dark, temps in the 30’s, very strong stiff NW wind off the lake in my face had to have the wind chill down in the 20’s.
With "Moonset" occurring in the West this morning, close to the time the sunrise would be starting to lighten the sky from the East behind me, I had hoped to get a good "moonscape" showing the lake & trees in some decent detail but it was still just too dark by the time the Moon disappeared.

At any rate, got back to the house, thawed out, and kept a couple shots for now.

Surprised I got any good enough to keep...strong wind blowing off the lake in my face, afraid to let go of the tripod at any time, eyes watering constantly, trying to fine tune focus wearing insulated gloves...had planned to go back this morning...alarm went off, saw 24 on thermometer, knew the wind chill would be in the teens, and using my vast Lunar knowledge, decided the moon would be back again on a warmer day...crawled back under the electric blanket, LOL.

Very good photos for a 300mm and 400mm, although the 300mm one looks a bit overprocessed.

I have a 500mm and a 650mm that I prefer to use to photograph the moon with. Their images preserve a very good amount of detail and don't require much in the way of post processing. Neither of them are Canon optics, however. I also prefer to shoot a "full" moon either one day prior or one day after full. A full moon's image tends to be rather flat. One day after and the shadows are more pronounced, giving more depth to the image. E.g.:

Canon EOS XS (10.1mp), ISO 100, Century Precision Optics 650mm f/6.8, 1/125 @ f/11:

One evening I noticed a blood red moon rising in the East, waxing gibbous phase. I ran to get my setup in place to snag a photo. Same lens, but I had to record the photo at ISO 800, or else I got moon-motion induced blur.
