J.W. Wall
We are going to be in west Maui (on the west coast, a ways north of Lahaina) for a couple of weeks this month. We are very interested in getting photos of whales as they are nearby shore in places. Where would you suggest that we set up with a tripod and a 40-150mm lens on an Olympus OM-D EM-10 (35mm equivalent of 80-300mm)? Or some other places for just eyeball viewing? Thanks for any suggestions.
kathlyn_gadd
Watching this with interest as we will also be in West Maui (north of Lahaina!) in the next few days...with the hope of catching a good shot of the whales.
J.W. Wall
We have seen some at a distance, from our lanai at a Napili resort, including a couple breaching. However, binoculars are helpful and photos with a 300mm equivalent lens give a small image of the whale. A whale tour is advised.
Dave410
You might already be there so this could be too late, but I spend a lot of time on Maui and I've always seen a lot more whales near Wailea than Lahaina, especially whales close to shore. It might be worth renting a car and heading east along the coast. Good luck.
