Does the Nikon Coolpix 5000 Really have TTL metering?

I've owned one for 10 hours and hate it already. Is it worth $700?

No. My finger sits right in front of the photocell. Nikon says to put

your SB80DX into TTL when you place it in the hot shoe. So if the

photo cell is controlling the hot shoe mounted flash, is it really

TTL? When I place my finger directly over the cell, the SB80DX blasts

like a rocket. The camera is going back to B&H tomorrow.

Kevin:

If you are talking about the flash sensor being TTL, the answer is

no [at least not on mine]. Still it works very well. In 35 mm, I am

used to shooting Leica M or Nikon. I adapted to the 5000 with no

problem. It does what it does very well. My complaints:

1. It is too light to hand-hold on the telephoto setting.

2. It has too many options for exposure control.

3. Exposure latitude is too narrow [something that I have found to

be true of all of the digitals that I have used].

But it works well. I have some complaints about all of the

cameras that I have used. eg, focusing the Hasselblad is a pain;

and it hasn't gotten any easier as I have aged. ;<)
