david_rivas
When shooting in A-P mode, in subdued light, I know the electronic shutter will open for up to 8 seconds however if it calls for more than 8 seconds the shutter stays open permanently or untill I turn the shutter speed dial to a manual setting. Is there another way to do this as this method makes for camera shake.
jim_gifford
Well, it will meter for longer than 8 seconds... although the specs do indeed say 8 seconds max autoexposure. Not sure how MUCH longer than 8 seconds it'll go, and of course there's no help on that question in the manual since we're talking about metering beyond spec. But if you're talking about very long exposures, for example several minutes, you could put on the lens cap before twisting the shutter speed ring. Less camera shake that way. david_rivas
Do all nikons do this in Aperture-Priority, that is close the shutter by manualy turning the speed dial when exposure is beyond specs? I know that if I re-shoot I just switch to Bulb and manualy bracket using my stop-watch.
david_h._hartman
The FE2 and I would think the FM3a will expose correctly out to 3 or 4 minutes in many cases. You will likely need to add some exposure compensation for reciprocity failure. I prefer to use a stop watch after 8 seconds.
david_rivas
Mr Speedlight I must apologize, I read your response and didn't beleive you but lo and behold I took a shot in subdued light at f22 and the shutter closed automatically at 4 minutes and 48 seconds. Thank You
gordon_checknita
Nikon EM, FG, FE2 and FA (and probably a lot of other Nikons) will expose night shots to several minutes in "A" mode. A little known but very good feature of these "old" cameras.
