Minolta Scan Multi Pro + Snow Leopard (10.6.8)

Is anyone running this? And if so what software? Is it possible to run with Minolta's provided software? Do I have to use Silverfast? Can you preview the whole negative strip first in any of these programs?

Thank you!

Ed Hamrick's Vuescan would work:

I'm using it with a Minolta Scan Elite II (firewire) under Windows 8.1.
You should be able to preview the whole strip.
The last version of the Minolta software for that scanner can be found here.

Sepehr, I'm a PC user and can't be much help with Mac issues. But, the Minolta scanner vs. (pick a computer) has been discussed frequently, and you'll find those threads if you search Photo Net. Here's one of those that may (or may not) be helpful:

http://www.photo.net/search/?cx=006577976762569540560%3A1n8vmghdzjw&cof=FORID%3A11&ie=UTF-8&section=all&q=Minolta+Multi+Scan&filter=0&sa.x=22&sa.y=10

Beyond the Mac compatibility issue, there are several things you should be aware of:

1. the last Silverfast software issued for the Scan Multi series may not be compatible with your Mac. Lasersoft stopped updating the PC versions beyond Windows XP. By the way, the Silverfast software does preview the entire film strip.

2. Based on my experience with the PC version, the original Minolta software for their computers will not work with the latest computer operating systems. There are no updates available for Minolta software.

3. You will need an SCSI card for your Mac. SCSI to USB adapters do not work.

4. Technical support for Konica-Minolta products is allegedly handled by Sony, which purchased K-M in 2006. So far, I haven't found anything useful there.

5. Spare parts are also hard to find. Most of those that are available are on eBay.

Good luck, and I hope it works out for you...

Thanks for the replies. The Scan Multi Pro has firewire. Ive done some research but all I found conclusively is that silverfast 6 se runs as a plugin in photoshop CS3. I dont have either of those and am not too interested in paying/downloading them after paying for the scanner itself. I'll give Vuescan a try.

But if anyone uses this scanner with 10.6.8 please let me know.

thanks

VueScan is very probably better than the original software. It will work with any Mac and nearly every scanner ever made. VueScan can be used independently or from inside Photoshop, most older versions anyhow.
Firewire is getting to be hard to find. The newer machines no longer have anything but USB3 and Thunderbolt.

MSMP + Snow Leo works with original minolta driver if Snow Leo installed with Rosetta.
Rosetta is not installed by default in Mac OS X v10.6 "Snow Leopard", but can be retained as an option via the installer or Apple Software Update for users who need to run PowerPC applications.[4
There is scsi and FireWire. I am using FW.
On PC you can use original Minolta driver if you have VueScan installed!
I have VueScan Pro + Minolta orig.driver installed on Win 7 and 8.1
I prefere Win as it is faster. Mac SL with Rosetta works OK - no problem. Use FW and place the dip switshes in correct position.
PS. There is Multi Pro site in yahoo.groups.
Happy scanning
