New to analog/ae-1 program

Hi everyone,

Just bought a canon ae-1 program with a 50mm f/1.8 and looking foward to trying my hand at film photography. I've owned DSLR's for a

couple years, but never a film SLR

One question that I haven't seemed to find an answer to, on my lens' aperture ring it seems like there are stops between the marked

stops. For like there seems to be a space between the 1.8 and 2.8 marks on the lens. Is there actually a functioning stop there like f2.0?

Thanks for any insight.

Jeff

Yes, the dots in between the numbers are for the sequence and they work just fine.

the full-stop sequence is
0.7 1.0 1.4 2 2.8 4 5.6 8 11 16 22 32 45 64 90 128 180 256

and see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-number for the full info. There are also half-stops, etc. There are even other older systems that are no longer used, but show up on early cameras.

By the way, it's FILM. Only callow, ignorant people would call it analog. eeew ...
;)

The AE-1 P, by the bye, is a dandy camera. Enjoy. Get a manual for it from Butkus.
