brad_williamson
I purchased the extension/accessory barrel and a set of macro lenses that mount to the front. Publishable macro is not needed. I'm only interested in deeper magnification when needed for identifying and posting images of electronic circuits, jewelry markings, etc.

I've tried every possible mode and setting. At base focal length the macro is less magnified than same image without the barrel/lens. With zoom extent, before the barrel and lens reaches better magnification than the native lens I run up against....
"this is the focus limit at the current zoom ratio".
Is it the case that I cannot use these lenses? Anyone familiar with their use on this camera or the Panasonic LX7 with similar mount? Are other macro lenses available that may work on this barrel?

JosvanEekelen
Just a thought: are you using manual focus of AF? MF may be necessary to get the diopters working. Further try different subject distances. And don't set the camera to Macro (to start with, you may experiment with this later).
brad_williamson
Thank you. Yes I've tried manual mode. Don't recall if I tried without macro setting. Worth a shot.
What I'm thinking of doing is ordering these lenses in 37mm. They're cheap enough at 10usd free ship amazon. 37mm works out to be precisely the size of the extended lens barrel end. With a little jeweler's skill I'd thread a steel ring into the 37mm macro aluminum lens thread. Epoxying three tiny 2mm x 1mm neodymium magnets to the camera's lens barrel end at noon, four, and seven, would allow me to place the macro where it is best suited, held sufficient for use, and easily removed. I've had very good luck with similarly attached magnifying lenses on my old basic point and shoot.
paul_de_ley
Brad the bad news is that Samsung's EX2F may not be the right type of point & shoot to use close up/diopter filters with. The magnification obtained typically depends on the focal length of the primary lens, with longer focal lengths + diopter producing much greater magnification boosts than short focal lenghts. Your EX2F 24-80mm equivalent focal length doesn't sound like it would get long enough, in my limited experience with diopters I'd guess you'll want to use one on a lens of at least 100mm or more.
harold_gough
You will need at least +5 at 80mm to see much magnification. Have you tried stacking the +2 and the +4?
