mukul_dube
I have downloaded, from Sony's site, the guidance material available for the A7. It leaves much to be desired. Can someone tell me where I might find something better? In all likelihood I shall be back here, after the camera arrives, with questions.

mukul_dube
Thank you, Charles. I shall buy it if I have to: but, for reasons of time and expense (I am in India), I'd prefer something on line.
CharlesBecker-Toronto
you can get it in ebook form from them if you want (it resolves the time issue but not expense).
cb :-)

CharlesBecker-Toronto
check out Amazon India; you can get it for less! ( in a Kindle edition or hard copy). cb :-)
mukul_dube
Yes, the book can be had from Amazon India. I looked at a few sample pages and, as its title suggests, it is a guide to photography. What I want is a clear, business-like account of the A7's features and settings. In more than half a century I may have learnt all I can about taking pictures.
Jeremy Stein
Try www.friedmanarchives.com.
Gary Friedman has written ebooks about various sony cameras, and I found his book on the A6000 to be very helpful. He does talk much more about camera features than about how to do photography.
mukul_dube
Thank you, Jeremy. This sounds more like what I need. To put it crudely, I want to be told not how to use the camera but how to make it do what I want it to do -- and of course, what it can be made to do.
CharlesBecker-Toronto
It most certainly is not a guide to photography-it is a guide to your camera's features and how to use them. I don't work for the publisher or Amazon and don't make anything from the sale of the book. As I said, I have the one for the NEX-6. I bought it because the manual is too vague. I recommended it to you because I thought it was just what you needed and I still do.
It's your call what you buy.
mukul_dube
Charles, I did not for a moment think that you had any interest in the matter other than helping me. Possibly I was misled by the sample pages I read on the publisher's web site, one of which was about composing pictures. What I want is a decent operating manual: something that speaks of the particular camera and of nothing else. There seems to be wide agreement that the manual offered by Sony is of little help. I now think that if I spend enough time hunting on the Net I may be able to collect the information I need.
CharlesBecker-Toronto
Mukul-go to the Amazon India site and call up the book I recommended-you can look inside it. Have a look at the table of contents.
in fact, here is the link:
http://www.amazon.in/Sony-A7-A7R-Snapshots-Great/dp/0321968603/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1422909818&sr=1-2&keywords=sony+a7
mukul_dube
Will do. I shan't stop grumbling, of course, because all the other cameras I have encountered have come with proper manuals.
mukul_dube
I have read some of the customers' reviews of the book. Several say that that the book does not explain the camera adequately. One example is, "If you want to learn about the particulars of the A7, it will be very disappointing."
