rick_janes
FD / FL glass is very popular on the Sony A7, but do you get the lenses' true focal length or is there an equivalence factor to deal with? It might be fun to play with, too bad the A7 resembles the flimsiest FD body of all time...the T50!
Lou_Meluso
<p>It's a full frame sensor so you get true focal length<br /> It's small but feels closer to an F-1 than a T50. Terrific build quality. The FDn 50mm f/1.4 is especially good.</p><div></div>
mark_pierlot
<p>The A7 is full frame (<a href="http://store.sony.com/a7-full-frame-mirrorless-camera-zid27-ILCE7/B/cat-27-catid-All-Alpha-a7-Cameras?_t=pfm%3Dcategory">link</a>), so no worries about crop factor, Rick. As for it being as flimsy (and ugly) as the T50, I'm sorry that I can't help you there.</p>
rick_janes
Thanks guys. I knew it was a full frame sensor but wondered what, if any, effect the lens adapters had on "delivered" focal length. Conceptually, it seems if they maintained the FD lenses' flange to sensor (i.e. film plane) distance then focal length and perspective would remain "true". The lady owner of our local camera shop will be renting an A7 soon, I might bring an FD adapter along for kicks.
rick_janes
An FD adapter should allow me to actually fit and focus through an original FL 19 / 3.5, a lens which required mirror lock- up and an accessory viewfinder on Canon SLRs...that would be a unique experience, to "see" through it! The same could be said for my Canon 50 / 0.95, with a different adapter of course. In fact, that lens might benefit most of all by my direct observation (and elimination) of background patterns and highlights which resonate with its hyperactive bokeh! If ever there was a lens whose bokeh characteristic can overwhelm your subject it's the 50 / 0.95.
baris_bille
<p>Let us know if the 19/3.5 really fits the A7, Rick. I know it did <em>not</em> fit the older NEX 7. </p>
rick_janes
Baris, do you recall what the incompatibility was? Eyeballing it, the 19's protruding rear optics look like they'd clear a Novoflex adapter.
feanolas1
Having a Alpha7, I think it looks much better than a T50, more like a A1... which is pretty nice! Of course lens adapters keep the focal flange, or at least they should. So the lens works optically exactly as on a FD body.
