ford_kristo
I have a Nikon FM2N that has seen very little use and has been in a cupboard for years.

On digging it out, I found that the self timer lever is stuck in the horizontal position (on) and can't be returned to the vertical (inactive) position.

The shutter still operates on all speeds. Mirror and shutter travel is OK.

I have tried depressing the shutter release pin on the body base, moving the timer lever with the shutter button depressed on "B" and every other thing I can think of - no result. The lever will not budge and I don't want to really force it.

Can anyone suggest a fix or is this a job for a tech?

Thanks.

kari_oinonen
Try to move the lever manually to vertical position. That starts ( at least in fe2 ) the timer and it resets after some seconds.
The timer may be stuck or the spring is broken. In that case it is a repair job.
ford_kristo
Thanks Kari, I have tried that. However, it feels like if I use more force, I may cause damage. Looks like it's a pro repair job.
kari_oinonen
2 more:
nudge the lever counter clockwise first. then try to move it clockwise.
press the lever pivot point towards the camera.
If these will not work, then at least I will give up ;-)
ford_kristo
Thanks again Kari. Tried those methods already. Looks like a job for a skilled nikosurgeon.
