coleman_w
Are there any tele-converters available for the Mamiya Press cameras?
Thank you,
marc_batters
I've never heard of one.
The system manual listing of available lenses doesn't show any tele-converters, either.
Marc

http://www.cameramanuals.org/mamiya_pdf/mamiya_universal_lenses.pdf
JDMvW
earlier discussion at http://www.photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/000y9p
also http://www.photo.net/medium-format-photography-forum/005P5c
so there are at least a few medium format extenders.

A google™ for "medium format tele extenders Mamiya" yields over 200,000 so-called 'hits' but the ones at the first included some promising links.
rogerwb
As tele converters are primarily designed for fixed lens cameras why not just get a "real" telephoto for your Mamiya ?
JDMvW
Roger, I think he's asking about the converters that go between the lens and the body, not the screw-in cheapies for the front of the lens. These are only for interchangeable lens cameras, but are definitely more common for 35mm than 6cm film formats.

These are much better optically than the front addons, but a real telephoto will almost always be better, as a matter of fact.

dan_fromm2
Hmm.

Some of the "screw-in cheapies for the front of the lens" are quite expensive and work reasonably on at least some lenses. Item, the 67 mm 1.4x afocal attachment for Canon 814XL-S and 1014XL-S Super 8 cameras. I've had one for years, it is definitely usable on my 200/4 MicroNikkor AIS.

JDM, the Mamiya Press system wasn't supported by other manufacturers. The only lenses for it were made by Mamiya. All cameras in the system have rangefinders that couple to lenses in Mamiya Press mount. Ain't no third-party TCs in Mamiya Press mount.

I can't read the OP's mind, suspect, but can't be sure, that he/she/it knows about the system's 250/5 telephoto, has blanched at the price and wants a less expensive way of getting a lens longer than he/she/it has. The list of lenses at the other end of Marc's link doesn't say it, but Mamiya advise that the 250/5 tele should be used only on the Super 23 and Universal; its weight will break older Press bodies' fronts. I remember, can't find documentation for, an older 250/7 (I think f/7) tele that's not rangefinder-coupled.
ondebanks
Dan, it was a 250/8. A wee little Tessar type, sitting at the end of a long tube...
JDMvW
No, as a matter of fact the "screw-in cheapies" are NOT the expensive screw-ins.
I meant what I said, and said what I meant. NTIM
