vladimir_pushkin
People, what about the Nikkor 500 \ 4 AF-S MKI vs MKII?
Primarily interested in the optical difference. Some may compare two versions nonVR? The difference in price including customs is $ 1,000, for me it is essential.
ShunCheung
The two versions of Nikon's 500mm/f4 AF-S, before the VR version, are optically identical. However, version 2 can focus a little closer and it is also lighter, probably due to more carbon fiber on the barrel. I have had version 1 since 1998.

The current version with VR is optically different. VR requires additional lens elements.

dzaebst
Vladimir, you should re-ask the question in the Nikon forum, be sure to specify you had asked the question in hte nature forum, but didn't get a complete answer.

I don't know how many of Nikon shooters come to the Nature forum. You should find more people who can answer your question there. (p.s., I'm a Canon shooter myself).

Best regards,
Dennis
