kathlyn_gadd
Not sure if this is the right forum - my apologies if not! I have seen a few photographs on the web in the style below - which I love! Does anyone know how this is done?
Image removed. szrimaging
It's tonemapping. Not sure on the exact settings though to achieve quite this look. Would be interested to find out though as I would like to try it a bit more.
David_Cavan
Are you trying to do this in-camera, or in post-production? If it's in-camera (and not knowing what you are shooting) you might try the HDR capability of your camera. If its in post-production (and again not knowing what too you're using) you'll get an enormous amount of material by just googling "tonemapping in post production"
Dave Cavan https://davecavanphotographics.com/
kathlyn_gadd
Thanks both of you for the key phrases (tone mapping and HDR) - Google has revealed much :)
tom_mann1
Kathlyn, could you post a link to the original photo (or something similar), so those of us that arrived late can see what you are talking about?

Thanks,

Tom M
kathlyn_gadd
Sorry, Tom - I think admin deleted the original link but the following link gives quite a few examples: http://ow.ly/egLvb
tom_mann1
Ahh. OK - it's just HDR. I thought you might have been looking at some effect more exotic than HDR.

Thanks,

Tom M
kathlyn_gadd
Sorry, Tom - I'm a digital newbie (former film enthusiast) oohing and ahhhing over the wonders of digital photography :)
David_Cavan
Kathlyn - when you get into digital the universe expands so much if you're not afraid of all the tools and techniques you can find in the software tools, and the growing amount of things that can be done in-camera. I think we've all tried HDR and its cousins, it is just so dramatic and fun. You'll find a mixed reception from experienced photographers, but I still like a lot of what I see, including some of the images in your link. Good luck - looking forward to what you produce.
Dave Cavan https://davecavanphotographics.com/
