D 700 spot focus

My spot focus has stopped working on my D700, any suggestions? The rectangles do not show up in the view finder.<br>

Or do I need to send it in for repair?</p>

<p>Dean - can you elaborate? Does the focus itself still work, just not show up in the finder? Do the other focus modes still work? If you use area focus mode, do you still get focus rectangles showing up? Does the digital rangefinder still work? Is it specific to a subset of lenses? Are you sure all the camera settings are as expected?<br />

Not that I can necessarily offer a solution, but at least I can offer some questions that might help someone narrow it down. :-)</p>

<p>At the risk of suggesting the obvious, note that the Nikon D700 focus mode switch has to be set to one of the two lower positions and not the "big white rectangle" mode (as shown below) for the rectangles to show up in the viewfinder:</p>
