david_mcsparron
Has anyone experience of the 4.5x6 version of the Kiev 60?How does the version from the factory differ from the version converted by KievUSA? How if the viewfinder modified? How is the film counter modified?
robert_reis1
The factory modifications include film frame for 645, changed film spacing, and the 6X6 screen has etched outline of reduced area but allows you to see full 6X6 area. Kiev/USA modifications do increase reliability of camera and eliminate film spacing problems. I have bought 2 Kievs from Mike Fourman and one from Kiev USA. If you try out a 645 from Mike you may get lucky. My guess is that you will eventually send it off for upgrade from Kiev USA. Why do I have three? One is gift for my son. One is mirror lock for studio. One is non-mirror lock up for field shooting.
william_gormly
One unique feature of the Kiev 645 is that when you hold the camera in what is normally the horizontal format, it is actually taking a vertical photo. And the reverse is true: tilt the camera on its side and you're taking a horizonal picture. This is not necessarily a criticism - too many photographers spend their lives taking horizontal photos, never realizing that portraiture virtually begs for the vertical perspective.
