JosvanEekelen
You can check both dpreview.com and photozone.de for these lenses. The big complaint about the Tamron is about slow/unreliable focussing. I'd go for the Sigma, or at a similar price, the Canon 70-200 f/4 IS.

alan_bessler
Niether in my opinion,I never cared for 3 rd party lenses after trying several I sent them all back and went the canon 70-200f4.0.Only my opinion though..
neill_farmer2
I have had a Sigma 70-200 2.8 HSM for around 10 yearrs now . It has worked flawlessly and seems to be sharp (7D at 100%). If I were purchasing this lens (70-200) today I think I'd go for the Canon 70-200 L F4 IS. Bit different when we were shooting film, every stop counted then. Now we can just bump up the ISO a bit.
angkordave
If you can afford it the Canon 70-200 F4 IS is an excellent lightweight alternative to either. If you are going to be shooting in low light with a T/Converter you might do better with F2.8.

Marcus Ian
Between the two, the Sigma is (IMPE) a better choice. It is capable of shooting very nearly as sharp as a 70-200/2.8L, and the AF is miles better than the Tamron. @ F4, it is sharper than the 70-200/4L is WO (though only slightly). But of course IS is not an option. The Sig 70-200/2.8 OS HSM is much softer than the non-OS version WO and near. So you don't need IS/OS, than don't get that lens.

I expect Tamron will update their 70-200 w/ their new USD (like HSM/USM) reasonably soon, though it still may be a year plus. That lens will likely be very competitive w/ the 70-200/2.8L as well.
