harlequin
I am taking a trip to Costa Rica and was thinking about picking up a TG-610 for the trip. Anyone have any experience with this model? Is it as tough as they claim?
Mike Howard
I had the company buy one for work. It has been bounced at least 10 times across concrete floors. I am also surprised by the picture quality. All in all, a very nice camera for it's intended purpose.
frank_skomial
I had Olympus tough, and it survived about 10 submerged underwater sessions, and it flooded.
Now I have Panasonic, but I am more careful now. I think it is better, and also costs more.
All submersible cameras will eventually flood, unless you re-seal it at vendors service center annualy, as recommended, e.g. by Olympus. Rubber seals could possibly get less flexible, that is why maker recommends replacing, but the cost of the service is prohibitive.

If you use camera in just rainy weather, wet, etc, but never submerge... perhap it will last much longer.
Yes, it is tough, but use it sensibly.
bill_tuthill
Panasonic TS4 or Nikon AW100 are better for features and image quality. The higher-end TG-810 was tested here: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q311waterproofcompactgrouptest
meissner
The newer Olympus TG-820 is supposed to have a much better sensor than the 810/610 (CMOS vs. CCD). I just checked at B&H and it looks like the 610 has been discontinued.
harlequin
Thank you all for your input and suggestions. After further research i went with the Lumix DMC-TS4. It seemed to have the overall best comments. Waiting for it to arrive. Will let you know how it works.
