dave_taylor5
Hello everyone,
This is my first post to the forum and comes at a sad time for me. Having just made the decision to move to digital as a result of Kodaks recent announcement that E100G and VS were being discontinued I was kind of surprised when someone dropped a D50 in my lap. I called Nikon and they said any memory card up to 1GB would work but the only ones I see listed on Sandisk, Toshiba and Panasonics sites start at 2GB. Any suggestions as to a suitable card?
Thanks,
Dave886
Wouter Willemse
The biggest I used with my D50 was a Sandisk 2Gb (an Ultra II, to be precise, but any should work). Larger than 2GB are so-called SD-HC cards, which will not work in the D50.
Enjoy the camera!

ShunCheung
The very first time Nikon puts an SD card slot inside a DSLR was the D50, back in 2005. It turns out to be the only Nikon DSLR that uses SD cards but is also not compatible with the current SD-HC (high capacity) memory cards. Therefore, you are restricted to the 2G SD limit.

jon_porter2
But the D50 files are relatively small, so the 2GB card limit isn't generally a problem. Plus the D50 was the last entry-level Nikon to support mechanical autofocus, so it's still a good little camera.
ShunCheung
The sort of problem is that pure SD (i.e. non-SDHC) memory cards are getting harder to find as most modern cards are over the 2G limit. I just checked B&H's web site, and they still have a few 2G SD card choices; otherwise, many other choices have recently been discontinued. Of course, the used market is another option.
