daverhaas
Sergio -

I posted the identical question a few months ago -

I've been on it for a little over a year and gotten 3 gigs out roughly 40 - 50 leads.

1 family
1 wedding
1 business shoot

In the beginning thumbtack was working on a commission model, with most photo leads being a pay a percentage of total sales at completion, but they must have realized that no one was booking or admitting they booked - so now they have switched to an upfront payment requirement.

The good news is that if you don't contract the requester they have a liberal refund policy - much better than service magics or any of the other services.

My assessment is that the typical lead / consumer on there is basing decisions more on cost than quality or ability to deliver.

Dave
frolickingbits
I used them briefly, got a few leads for weddings at about 1/6 of my regular rate, and decided it was a waste of time and money.
wedding-photography-denver
Here is a thought about all "listing" sites that you pay.

If you pay them, they have funds to work their SEO. If they work the SEO for your area, they COMPETE directly with your site. So you are in effect, paying someone else to compete for your spot, and you will have to continue to pay them…. for ever.

Makes good sense to me.

wil_reiner
I tried it out - total wast of time and money so far - you have to pay about $8 to respond to a "lead"... most people check "$500 or less" for their budget so these are not high-quality leads... craigslist version 2.0
