neil_poulsen8
I'm wondering what differences there exist between a "standard" and the Model II RB prism that I've seen advertised on a certain auction site. Are the optics better in the Model II? Less distortion?
marc_batters
Not so much a difference in optical design. Two different styles of prism housing designs; one early and one later.

RB Pro SD's and original RZ Pro's were made simultaneously for quite some time, maybe a decade.
At some point, Mamiya discontinued the squat RB prism housing, and adapted the RZ prism housing for the RB.
Why continue making two separate prism housings, when one would do? The Type II prism was born.

I'm a RZ'r, but many RB users prefer the original RB prism over the Type II. It's a bit shorter and the viewing angle is close to 45 degrees. The type II, (and with all RZ prisms), the viewing angle is closer to straight-on.
The optional, adjustable diopter/magnifier will fit either prism style.
david_pidcock
Exactly what Marc said. Plus the metal of the original and the "plastic" of the II prism makes it lighter and easier to handle.
jim_peterson2
I don't know if you've seen any good photos of them so thought this might interest you.
http://chemicalcameras.wordpress.com/mamiya-rb67-professional-sd/
Unfortunately the older one I have isn't just the regular prism viewer but rather the metered one. But the unmetered one looks similar, just without the switch and dial.
jim_momary
Below is the PD Prism Finder (metered).
Uses a 6V 4SR44 or 4LR44 battery.
LED readouts.
Works well.
Jim M.

neil_poulsen8
Thanks for all the responses. Looks like I have two of the original, one with meter and one without. They really add to the weight of the camera. So, I think it makes sense to look for a model ii.
