bernie moore
I have a D100 and a D200 and some fine lenses. For example: a AF-SMicro Nikkor 105mm 1:2.8 G ED and a 17-35 of the same quality. I shoot underwater and the housings for a full dslr are heavy and cumbersome. Dive buddies have newer, smaller cameras and strobes that take hi def videos and stills that look pretty good to me. I don't plan to rid myself of the dslrs, but a much smaller UW rig is tempting. Have the high mp point and shoots equaled the quality of these vintage cameras? mark_jordan3
There are a few such as the Canon G series that in my opinion are getting close, however, under 100% crop still exhibit water color effect (and other aberrations) to levels I don't see in DSLR images, including my old D1X. But this is all under close inspection...a P&S in your situation would have a number of functional advantages. If you're not printing large, it might make the most sense to go that direction.
bernie moore
Thank you, Mark. I left the UW P&S world because the lag in shutter firing was driving me nuts. I do enlarge to 20X30" in some cases but more commonly 16X20 & 11x14, the latter I print myself.
