gregf
Does anybody have experience with this combo? It seems to be that it would add unwanted vignetting being that the flash has a 58mm thread and the Lens 67mm.
bob_sunley
Have a look at the Ray Flash, it will fit, and uses a 580 for the power source. For a test, cut a 58mm dia hole in a piece of paper and see what happens.
lester_wareham
Gregory, don't worry, you have a similar issue with the 180L, never noticed an issue. On the 100L I suspect a lot of the front element size over the 100 classic is for the IS function anyway. Chances are if you are using flash with a macro lens you will be well stopped down so the size of the flash is irrelevant.
robin_sibson1
The 100/2.8L / Macrolite Adapter 67 / MR-14EX is my standard close-up setup on FF and I have never seen vignetting under any circumstances, including leaving the Macrolite Adapter on the lens when doing non-close-up shots.
JDMvW
Just a note that ring flash in general produces (as it is supposed to) a very flat light. This is often more suitable for one of its earliest applications, dentistry, than it is for three-dimensional objects.

Some ring lights have the ability to vary the light from side to side to allow more modeling. Depending on what you're using the light for, you may want to look into options offered on ring lights and other closeup lighting options (e.g., http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-Macro-Twin-Lite-MT-24EX-Flash-Review.aspx )
