gregf
Does it bothere anyone else than Canon only labels hoods with part numbers? I mean my 70-200 looks almost Identical to my 24-70; same for TS-E24 v 45; and the 17-40 looks an aweful lot like the 24-105.

Yes, I do label them myself to mitigate the problem...but it's just grinds my gears than Canon can't just put the lens name on the hood. Same with the pouches, many look the same...
JDMvW
A few lens hoods fit more than one lens.
Just leave the hood on the lens, reversed for storage, if desired.

Was the saying: "worry about the little things and the big things will take care of themselves," or what? ;)
gregf
My camera bag is so tight, that only the 70-200 fits on reversed. It's just a minor annoyance!
scott_ferris
Many pros label the hoods, the pouches are all mixed up, they are in diameter and height notation and most fit multiple lenses. I don't use them though, they are too bulky, I use Crown Royal Whiskey bottle cases (one of the many places I do work uses a lot of Crown Royal :-) ), they fit most lenses far better, they are good for the 24-70 etc and smaller but don't fit the 70-200's. Like these.
JDMvW
Hey, the Crown Royal Bags are indeed a standby, but having more than one of them might make the original problem of telling them apart, even greater. :|

scott_ferris
They are easy to get embroidered but if you can't reach in your bag and know which lens you are grabbing then you probably have the time to check :-)
philip_wilson
Hoods I keep on the lens reversed or can usually tell apart. My problem iss pouches ND it is usually the 16-35 ff2.8 II tat catches me out. Thhe 24-70, 16-35 and 17F4 TS are all very similar pouches but the lens hoods get stuck IFC you try ands put them in the wrong bags (the 17 has no hood). I often think I should write on with a sharpie but I never get to it. The 70--200 F4IS and 100 F2.8 LIS are also very similar.
dcstep
I use CR bags to carry my trumpet mutes. I WOULD NOT recommend it for valuable lenses. My mutes are full of fuzz from wearing the inside of the bag. Also, ultimately, the bags where through. None of that is a worry for my mutes, but I wouldn't put anything in there that I wouldn't want to collect fuzz.
gregf
I agreee with what has been said about the bags. They are very interchangable. The only time I ever use them is for a couple of sligh bags that I mostly ripped out the padding. I'd bet you could probably get a couple of hundred selling all your used bags (I have 7) on Ebay.
scott_ferris
David,

But I have been doing it for years and have had no fuzz or wear problems. Maybe just different way we use them.
randallfarhy
I don't have an issue with this mainly because the hoods for my most used lenses are either easily distinguished due to size, or are integral to the lens (IE 300MM/400MM). I can see where it might pose a problem if they were similar in size. Even if the data were printed on the hood, I would still opt to color code one or more of them to the appropriate lens using a thin stripe of colored low tack (reduces risk of residue) masking tape (blue/yellow/natural etc) on both the hood and lens. These tapes are readily available from Big box improvement centers and craft/art/hobby supply etc. If tape residue is a concern, a cloth moistened with lighter fluid or goo remover easily removes this without damage to the equipment as long as you don't tape over any pre-printed areas.
desmond_kidman
Silver "sharpie" permanent marker, write the lens on the outside of the hood, done deal.
