mr_marks
Hi, I tried out my Lee Big Stopper and found that there is a bluish tint in the exposures. I am using auto white balance. Is this normal? However, it can be easily corrected by adjusting the color temperature.
bobatkins
I don't know if it's normal, but you can always do a custom white balance by shooting a white or grey card and using that as your reference. Most (if not all) DSLRs have a custom white balance setting.

I think most high density, long exposure filters tend to throw colors off slightly. I know my Hoya does. I'm not quite sure why AWB doesn't work, but it may be related to the fact that color temperature assumes a black body wavelength distribution and few ND filters are truely neutral so they do deviate from the black body curve. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_body
david_henderson
I have the same issue with my 10 stop B+W nd, except I get warm not cold. As you say, easily corrected.
sheldonnalos
Yes, this is normal for the Big Stopper. It does have a bluish tint that needs to be corrected in post.
derek_thornton1
Mr marks, yes it is normal. I have used many types of ND filters and they all leave a color tint. The exspensive Lee's look just like the cheap HiTechs. Just shoot RAW and auto WB and set temp. in post processing.
derek-thornton.artistwebsites.com
