need Help with 540 ez.

Need more help here guys,after many years as a dedicated nikon user

i finaly had enough of their poor quality lenses and bad service; I

made the change to Canon and bought an eos 1v with a couple of L

lenses,I didn't have enough for a 550ex flash but my paper had a

540ez but no manual is there a major difference between the two.

I'll give it a go. With a 1v and 540EZ, you only have TTL, not A-TTL. That means in P, Tv and Av there is no pre-flash to estimate exposure settings. Everything is real-time TTL flash metering.

 

With the 550EX you'd have E-TTL flash metering and a host of other stuff.

Basic difference is the 550EX adds E-TTL metering with Flash Exposure Lock (FEL), high speed sync (FP) and a few other enhancements. both FEL and FP are quite useful.

You got the "eos 1v with a couple of L lenses" but "didn't have enough for a 550ex flash" ? Say it again ? After spending thousands on the best body and lenses you get cheap on 100$ difference between the 540EZ and 550EX ? Am I the only one who do not see the point of this ?

 

Do yourself a favor. Buy the 550EX. E-TTL is worth having.

Yakim, many thanks for your input but I think you missed the point,after spending many thousands of dollars on a 20mm 2.8, 28-70 2.8 l and a 70-200 2.8 l is I was broke ; but my paper had a 540 ez of which i knew nothing about, so i posted here for help, and thanks to people like yourself informed me , i have now ordered a 550ex so once again many thanks.
