hadji_singh
I need to register my 16-35 lens with my insurance company and they need the serial number. The Canon warranty card has a "Body No." section that lists a five digit number. Is this the serial number? Or is it obvious and I've missed it? bill_goldman
I'm sure the number on the warranty card is the serial number. Unless they've changed it, the serial number of the lens is engraved on the lens at the bottom, close to the lens mounting flange. With the lens mounted on the camera, turn the camera upside down and you will see it. This is true for L lenses. For other lenses, it is ink-stamped on the rear of the lens and is hard to see unless you turn the lens so that the light reflects just right. NK Guy
Older Canon EF lenses have the serial number stamped in white on the lens barrel. Yours probably has it on the lens mount - look on the black plastic of the lens mount area. It's likely printed in black ink, so you need to look for it in bright light and hold it at various angles. hadji_singh
Thanks, guys. I found it. It's stamped on the lens. But I didn't see it until I took the lens off the camera. Why didn't I think of that? Duh.
derek_linney
Hadji, I had the same problem when registering the serial numbers of my lens - all of them canon EOS lens - and I reckon just about every lens had the serial number in a different place! isaac sibson
With L series lenses you need to be careful. The number silk-screened onto the back of the lens is actually the production code (eg UN0102), not the serial no, which is five figures. White L series have the serial no painted in black on the bottom of the lens by the mount. Not sure about others.
sergey_oboguev
My 16-35 has it engraved on the mount.
