mhahn Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011
a nikon or canon (or other aps-c sensor) dslr, but with a multi-aspect sensor that would allow aspect ratios of 4:3; the 3:2 aspect ratio can get tiresome.

MichaelChang Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011
That's right. Crop. You can even make it square! The pixel loss through cropping is largely irrelevant for most users.

mhahn Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011
I don't think that works for me. Doesn't look right, for some reason. Maybe a mask on the viewfinder, so that I could see a squarer format when taking the picture, but that would probably be cumbersome.

geoffs1 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011
With a camera that has removable/replaceable focusing screens, you could probably add marks (ex. with a Sharpie?) to indicate your favorite crops. Maybe even blackout the "extraneous" parts of the screen. There may already be a commercial place that sells those (I seem to remember seeing something in the past...).

waltflanagan Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011
My D3 has a 1.5 DX crop and 4:5 crop. When you enable the areas of the image that won't be recorded are darkened in the viewfinder. I've only used the DX crop a couple of times because it bumps up the frame rate and the only time I get tired of 3:2 is when I stitch to produce something like a 3:1 panorama.

ellis_vener_photography Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011
Different Canons and Nikons have this feature already built-in.
