eddie_austerlitz1
Why does an 'Edge Darkening Filter' show up at HIGHER fStops? Seems like it would begin appearing as the aperture Opens, not Closes?
rolland_elliott2
What the heck is an edge darkening filter? Maybe once you explain this you'll get some responses to your question.
derek_simpson
I'm guessing that you are talking about filters vignetting here. IE making edges and corners dark by intruding on the image. With wider apertures the effect is there but very gradual because out of focus - narrower apertures bring greater depth of field and therefore the vignette effect becomes more focussed and harder edged and noticeable. Some quantum physics expert is welcome to supercede this explanation
pete_schermerhorn
This is a similar situation to mine, where I "devised" my own permanently-mounted lens shade to my Hassy 50mm C lens. I tested it thoroughly before leaving for Ireland this past September but, in my wisdom, was testing it at f/8's and wider.....forgetting that I'm a tripod-user and nearly all of my photos would be at 16 or 22. Now I have hundreds of negatives with darkened corners.....which have certainly limited my cropping/composing options. And I like to use the "whole frame" when I am shooting. At least it wasn't a leaky back, which happened to me in Ireland three years ago. mike_hegerfeld
Could he possibly be referring to a graduated neutral-density filter?
