40D won't focus

My 40d will not focus with any lens all of a sudden. It seems different lenses are tyiing to (70-200L IS and 16-35L IS) both in bright

daylight. I was afraid it was the 70-200, so I tried other lenses and it seems to be doing the same. Am I missing something? Nothing

<p>Put it in AUTO mode ... does the shutter work to focus in that mode? If so, I'd say your camera is setup to use the back button to focus. </p>

Just took a shot in auto and one in manual result looks fine but not showing focus through the lens...mirror?

<p>Yep, if AF works fine but is blurry through the viewfinder, you either need glasses or a diopter adjustment. Spin dat wee wheel next to the rubber eye frame...</p>

<p>There is another albeit more remote possibility: the focusing screen was knocked out of alignment and needs to be reseated. But try adjusting the diopter first.</p>

<p>THAT DID IT! Thank you so much! I had it in the back of the Element and one of the dogs probably hit it. Diopter..why didn't I figure that out? Thanks again.</p>
