cmphoto
My 40d will not focus with any lens all of a sudden. It seems different lenses are tyiing to (70-200L IS and 16-35L IS) both in bright daylight. I was afraid it was the 70-200, so I tried other lenses and it seems to be doing the same. Am I missing something? Nothing sounds loose...
dave_hoffmann
Put it in AUTO mode ... does the shutter work to focus in that mode? If so, I'd say your camera is setup to use the back button to focus.

morthcam
Have you checked the viewfinder diopter setting?
PuppyDigs
Yep, if AF works fine but is blurry through the viewfinder, you either need glasses or a diopter adjustment. Spin dat wee wheel next to the rubber eye frame...

There is another albeit more remote possibility: the focusing screen was knocked out of alignment and needs to be reseated. But try adjusting the diopter first.
Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter
cmphoto
THAT DID IT! Thank you so much! I had it in the back of the Element and one of the dogs probably hit it. Diopter..why didn't I figure that out? Thanks again.

Carol
