abushga
I like the B+W 82mm UV MRC filter, but I really, really want a filter with threads that will retain the Canon lens cap.
Require no vignetting with the 16-35mm lens, naturally.
B+W makes "slim" models for wide angle lenses that come with those irritating slip-on/fall-off lens covers. Working in dusty high desert, these are worse than nothing.
B+W also makes thicker 82mm UV MRC filters that claim no vignetting with this lens, but I can't determine whether filter has internal threads for the Canon lens cap.
Can anyone on the list recommend a model of the B+W 82mm UV MRC that will do what I need?
Or ... another brand of equivalent quality?
Thanks,
Randy
mendel_leisk
As far as I know, if it doesn't say "slim" it has front threads, at least with B+W.

As to the question of vignette with regular thickness filter: I suspect it won't but maybe this is a case where you should purchase in person, take test shots and review on the LCD. Don't rely on the viewfinder: it might not be showing 100%.

About 2 page scrolls down in The-Digital-Picture review of the 16-35II:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-16-35mm-f-2.8-L-II-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

he says:

Unfortunately, a normal thickness UV filter causes some additional vignetting at 16mm when mounted on a full frame body.

I'm still not sure though. I believe he also recommends slim for the 17-40, but I found a regular thickness worked fine.
