Gardens in California

In June we are travelling to California - 4 days each in LA, San Francicso and Yosemite. For me the highlight will hopefully be Yosemite and seeing the bits Ansel Adams photographed. However inorder to keep my other half sweet (!) I need to find some gardens to visit. Any suggestions would be welcome!
Thanks in anticipation

A Google™ for Gardens +"name of town" produces many hits. I know that the Japanese garden in SF was nice, tho' I haven't actually been there for years...
"Garden" is kind of broad - English Woodland, Japanese, Botanical Society, etc.

In the L.A. area, the already mentioned Huntington Library and Gardens is probably the most extensive and is well worth visiting. it has a "new" Chinese garden and while the Japanese garden is undergoing renovation, the bonsai display and Zen gardens are still open. The Library is a famous research library with a magnificent collection and the art galleries are also famous. The L.A. County Arboretum in Arcadia is also a large garden and is famous for it's use in a variety of movies and TV shows. The Descanso Garden is in La Canada Flintridge and is also well worth visiting. One could (but maybe shouldn't) fit all three in on one day.

There is also a Japanese Garden in the San Fernando Valley that isn't as well know (I haven't visited this one).

There is also quite a large rose garden in Exposition Park, adjacent to the Coliseum, USC and a number of museums just south of downtown. It's seen quite regularly as part of "The Jeffersonian" on the "Bones" tv series. This is worth considering if the museums, etc., are of interest.

Lots to chose from here. A couple of gorgeously 'landscaped' properties that also include wonderful architecture would be the Getty Center in LA (not the Getty Villa, but that is also interesting). And of course there is Hearst Castle, which should be on everyone's must list. Near San Simeon.
