bernard_tam
I have R3, R4 and R6.2. Unfortunately my R3 and R4 were down, and not coincidently I am down at the same time. It appears the timer in the shutter is not reacting at all. They responded just the same when I put in from 1/1000 to 1 sec. I tried to replace the batteries but predictably to no avail. There're no drops, no collisions. It's only that I left them unattended for a couple of months. It doesn't happen to my FM2 so I am sure the prob must be on the Rs. People told me to prepare $125 for each repair. What should I do?
salvatore_reitano
If you changed the batteries and the problem still persists than you will have to invest the 125$ / camera. I have also an R4 and after so many years I noticed that the batterie was discarging with in 2 - 3 weeks without using the camera and nothing was touching any buttons. So it happens to electronic that for example the condensators may dry out or some resistance and diodes are no longer doing their job. This can happen to every camera that has electronic build in. With the on you have the issue earlier with others later. You may not encounter this problem with the FM2 as if I am not wrong the electronic is only for the metering and not for the control of the shutter. jay_.
If you are in the USA, prepare for $300 for each repair. That's Leica NJ's standard labor fee for R bodies--plus parts. I don't know personally of any other repair shops that service R's (Sherry and DAG do not) but perhaps there are some.
chansonbleu
Hi Bernard, You can try Dan Lynch at New England Camera Repair. I have had work done there before and he is very good and his prices are reasonable. His number is 603-526-6740. Regards Steve
doug herr
Jay, has Don Goldberg recently begun to refuse servicing R bodies? When I visited him last June he was repairing them, though relutantly.
