hq
Hi, Could any Leica M user confirm with me the following if this is a problem or a feature that I was confused: Is it true that the frameline or entire framing lines together with the center image conincide patch will moves as we focus in and out with lens? I own a M6TTL for almost two years. Until recently after having using the Elmarit 135/2.8 for a certain period, I realize the entire framing lines (Left+Top+Right+Bottom+Center Patch) moves diagonally up or down as I focus with Summicron 50, very obviouslly. I used to have 50mm/2 and 24mm/2.8. Recently using the 135/2.8 very frequently. The 135/f2.8 is also having the same problem but due to the focal length, the movement is not as obvious. To elaborate, the entire frameline moves up to the top left as I focus to infinity and moves down to bottom right as I turn the focus ring to near focus point. ( I hope you get what I'm trying to say) Put in in another way - let say if I aim the conincide patch on the center of the subject I want to focus; as I focus further or closer, I will have to, at the same time, move my camera to make sure the patch stays in the center with my object. Is this normal? Another example again assuming my subject is at the center of the frame. My camera mounted on a tripod, and as I focus further the level of the tripod has to be adjusted higher and more to the left accordingly and vice versa. I thought the frameline shouldn't be moving while we are coinciding the image during focusing? Really confuse?
roger_michel
this is perfectly normal. it is the automatic parallax compensation at work.
hq
Thanks Roger... I guess am to accustom to the 135 mm with google. Previously using the wide angles have not bring this issue to much my attention. What happens was I sent my M6 to Leica AG and they "actually treated it" and charge me a cost of almost 350US. The stated service done by them was: 1. Impact Damage2. Adjust bayonett, shutter & range finder3. Clean Range finder4. Replaced rewind knob, axis and lubrication. The rest of the service was pretty understood but don't know what they mend by Impact Damage??!. However, when the set returned, I found more problems such as crumpled curtain, and the leather was lose; and stupid enough, I told them the problem was not solved (framlines moves). I guess I was too sensitive to the frameline after using the 135 gogle. I wrote to them about the new problem as well as the unsolved. The set was returned few days back after one solid month, still no specific explanation to the frameline "problem". However, I got a whole new leather replaced for the body as well as the shutter curtain. Sigh! Should I smile or laugh!
